Please can someone help me with a couple of questions on the Anbias.

1. I brought a couple from greenline that they called "Anbias Nana Nana". Yesterday I brought some more called "Anbias Barteri var. Nana". To me they are the same one, so are they?

2. I also brought a new piece of bogwood as well, and it's going to make a large arch from one side to the other. I would like to put a Anbias on top which will make it no more than 7 inches from the surface. As the Anbias likes low light or shade will it be OK on top? Oh yes, I have 2.2wpg.

Thanks

generally they keep saying that anubias should prefer shaded areas because its a slow grower and is prone to spot algae :) but in really nice and balanced tanks. this does not happen

i would suggest planting the anubias somewhere lower in the tank where its a bit shaded but still gets light.

I have my Anbias Barteri var. Nana close to the surface, in my low tec planted and my discus tank and they seam to grow like mad.

I have two in my 60ltr tank one close to the bottom, and one on some wood at the surface.
The on at the surface grows faster and shows big full green leafs, where as the one at the bottom looks stunted compared.

see perfect example :) anyway simon could you be so nice as to show dave your tank params so he can get a feel on how he should treat his anubias :)

I was thinking of possable planting it close to Microsorum Pteropus or Java Fern to give it a bit of shade.

Its a juwel record 60ltr
PH 6.8
KH 4'
Havnt test the other peramiters, but will do when i have five mins.
I was thinking i might posted it in members tank area, i,m quite proud of it.

no surface irigation to hold max co2, i add 5ml of trace and leave the rest to nature.
I always like to attach them as close to the surface as possible they seam to grow better for me just at the water surface.
All the anbuilas i have are grow from one single one i bought years ago that resides in my discus tank.

Yes, Simon, I'd love to see pictures of your anubias and you should think about posting it.

I recently moved all of my anubias to my 10g. It has 2.8WPG, CO2 injection, pH 7.0, kH 9 (CO2 is at 27ppm then). I dose ferts twice a week. The anubias are on bogwood, and the larger A. barteri vs nana shades two petite nana and there is one mystery anubia that looks like a petite nana, but it seems rather large. The larger anubia is shaded by Limnophila sessiliflora. I moved them because there is less light in this tank and less issues with algae. :)

Sorry DaveW we seam to of hijacked your thread :*)
It would look nice, gf225 has the narrow leaf java fern a beast of a thing, which looks nice with a belt of Anubias under it.
Have a look at his tank here.

This has only been there for a few months and its doubled in size, You should just be able to see the other one in the pic below half burried in java moss, its been there twice as long.

No problem! ;) What is your WPG?

I've been working out how to arrange the wood, and the plants on it. It has to look good because the wood will take up most of the tank. The Anbias will all be shaded in time from the Java fern and Microsorum Pteropus, I hope. But I only have 2.2wpg which is not that high, so it shouldn't cause a problem.

I'm only on 1wpg and its a 2 year old tube at that's.
I think the success is due to the high plant mass, low light, no surface irrigation and low stocking, i only have 2 corys, 1 tiny plec and a betta.
