Have not been able to find this: How long till you can tell the sex of the fry? Have a couple of black lyretail fry left that were to small at the time to bring to the LFS. Well mom has passed and since the wife loves lyretails especially black ones was hoping to keep a female to replace her.

I agree with that. I had two mollies a while ago but they died from fin rot and white spot. I bought them from a local petstore, wont do that again!!.

I went bact to the store and his whole tank was infested.

Actually Cation, with guppies you can tell at about 2-3 weeks. The females start to get their gravid spots at that age, which of course the males don't get. So just start looking for that little black spot and you have a female. I have my guppy batch completely seperated now, boys in their own tank, girls in theirs. I started doing it at 2 weeks, they're a month old now, I had them completely seperated at 3 weeks except for 1 male I just caught today to move to the boys dorm, darn guy was too fast to catch, Lol.

I have some sex changers, so I just never count my chickens till about 6 weeks. However, you're right - I've found I can see what they're up to before that with the white paper/flashlight test. Although, besides the sex changers, sometimesI think they're gals, when really they just have to poo.


I don't seperate, thought, so I don't pay as careful attention as I did when I first got them. ) You should listen to linda (if they're guppies, that is... )

I'm not good when it comes to breedin swordies. They always give birth when im not around.
