Hi all:)

I just bought a new filter to use in conjunction with my old one.
Will my tank have to go through another mini cycle for the new filter to catch up to speed with the old one?

thanks:)

Hi,
I just recently added a tetra 1200 to my tank to work along side the jewul filter before i remove it.... Asked the same question .. was told the new filter will slowly build a bacteria colony .. but will take approx a month in the meantime the old filter will contain almost all of the bacteria.. In time the load will be shared between the new.and the old. I am this week removing all the filter media from the internal and putting it in the new canister,,,Then removing the jewul filter completely Regards Zac

no, but dont add any more fish for a good few weeks until the new filter has formed its own bacterial colony, as long as the original filter is still in then things wont change.

oh cool, thanks:)
my tank is already stocked to my liking so i wont have to worry about any more fish:)

++will my tank have to go through a bacteria bloom by any chance?

Providing you keep your old filter running at the same time as your new one then I can see no reason for you to have any problems.
Your old filter will still have all the beneficial bacteria in it, and in time they will seed your new filter.
This could take a while to happen though so dont remove your old filter too soon, better still would be to have both running permanently.

great:)
my initial plan was to have both filters running together anyway so that's perfect
