Question?

Heres another similar question, if you allready have fish that are allways chasing and fighting.... What can you do to cease the aggression? And why doesent the fish getting all the bullying defend itself/Or will it ever?

Getting a shoal of "dither fish" can help ease the aggression.
Dither fish such as = Giant Danio's, Large Barbs, Silver Dollars (my fav)

If that helps not in the slightest, the best thing would be to move the fish to another tank.

The reason it doesnt defend itself is because it cant stand up the the other fish,
Place a small weaker child against a musclar brutish one,
The small child cant defend itself properly against the musclar one,
and yields, which damages itself.
Same principle applies with fish,
One fish will be stronger than the other and dominate

Out of these Dither fish:Giant Danio's, Large Barbs, Silver Dollars

Which would be best?
Also, why wouldnt the more aggressive fish leave the allready exsisting fish alone? And why wouldnt it attack the Dither fish? I dont think they are even aggressive fish.
Just Wondering.

All of them pretty much do the same job.
Giant danio's are the smallests.
Some barbs can get to hefty sizes.

I personally prefer Silver Dollars.
They're easy to manage, Interesting looking fish (though they do very little)
And seem to work a treat.

But take a look at Giant Danio's and large Barbs
Before taking my opinion for it.

After all you may like them more :)

And how many shall I buy?

I usually keep them in Shoals of 3-5.
For the Dollars at least.
Smaller fish may require more to make an effective shoal

It really depends on the size of the tank,
Dollars themselves grow to 6-7 inch disc's of vegetation eating madness!

Well for now, they are in a 55g. But will be getting upgraded.
Also, I've heard of people keeping kissing gourami's with oscars, how true is this?

oscars themselves ARNT aggressive fish (granted a few exceptions)
They are built to eat and that is what they do best ^^
If someone is threatning their territory and their food supply they'll fight to defend it.
Given the right amount of space, oscars can live fine with A full size kissing gourami.
Though im gona guess the gourami's gona have to compete for food :good:

hey,
oscars do well with,
oscars,
jack dempsys
large plecos,
chocolate catfish,
convict cichlids,
banded leporinus,
and a few more that are not on the top of my head.
you should move all of the decore in the tank and then let the new fish in.
that way, the oscar may not feel so dominant.

I agree with the decore moving to get rid of territories,
then the oscar needs to re-take a new territory.

I disagree with convicts being an ideal oscar partner.
A large breed pair of cons, will bash an oscar.
Not saying it cant be done, but i respect my fish enough to not put it in
a underwater "wasps nest".

Singular cons i find are quite secretive and in some cases skittish,
so i find them poor choices in both cases.
