So as a few of you know, my girl dropped 14 fry 2 months ago. She again dropped 27 a month ago as well. My goodness, I got a lot of fish.

All seem to be healthy, happy and thriving, however a few of them (I believe 3 out of the whole batch) are a little deformed. I read that this was common in fry and that they should be euthanised, :-( . 2 have crooked spines, so they swim a little funny and they look a little lopsided from the top view. The other, when you look at him from the side is almost a shape of a "v" instead of having a straight back like his other siblings. I just transferred the larger 2 month old platys to their own 7 gallon tank until I find them homes, but I am wondering if this might be a problem later on for the 3 guys? They seem to be doing fine and they are definitely happy in their bigger home.

Water parameters are/were perfect and water changes were every day since the day the first batch was born. I've grown very attached to these babies and I don't want to see any have to die because of their imperfections. Any advice for me?

Its really down to personal preference:

If you think the deformities will cause a less than happy life, or severely disadvantage the fish, then euthanise.

If you think the fish will be in pain in later life, or may have problems with organ development etc. then euthanise.

If you think the fish, though deformed, can have a quality of life with you, then keep it (its highly unlikely to be a genetic defect, and much more likely to be result of birthing/development).

But, what you see is what you get, sometimes fish slightly improve with age, but must often they stay as they are.

Hello,

That's too bad about those little guys! The thing I was thinking about while reading your post is that sometimes other fish will attack or even kill other fish who seem weaker or ill. It would be a sad thing if that starts happening - you may have to keep the odd balls separate from the other fish if you notice this. Other than that, I myself would do the same thing as you and give them a shot and see if they can live successfully! Good Luck!!
