I have a 15 gallon tank with 6 glofish (danios) for about a year and a half.. recently things were going on and I completely neglected the tank for about a month or more. needless to say it was pretty disgusting.. So I started to clean the tank gradually each week doing about 50% water changes and finally one good cleaning. I made the mistake of thinking I should remove the fish while changing so i kept them in a bowl with a plant and some air. But I have done that many times in the past and never had a problem. Then a few days maybe a week later I lost one to dropsy. i removed him as soon as i noticed as to not get the others sick.. they all seemed to be doing fine so i decided to add 2 new fish same species. They were doing great but one by one my older fish all got what i think was dropsy and died. I changed the filter (just the sponge right now) and cleaned it well but again took the fish out when cleaning. the 2 seemed fine and I introduced 4 new fish for my old total of 6. And now the 2 i had before the 4 seemed very stressed. They just sit at the bottom one guarding each corner and 2 of the new ones hang around down there with them but the other 2 swim around like normal. These fish in the past were always very active and these guys are just making me worry. I read everywhere that stress is usually caused by bad water but last i checked maybe a week or so ago it was fine. is it possible I just cleaned the tank too many times and removed the fish and they are just stressed from that and maybe will come around? or should I do another water change the correct way without removing them?? or should I just leave them alone? i really love these fish and dont want to lose anymore! help!:(

personally i would leave the tank alone and try not to take them out as that is probally stressing them way too much. try changing some of the water without having to take them out of the tank and try not too change all the water at once as changiong all of the water is probaly shocking them as the temp or p.h etc etc may not be the same as before. also changing the filter media at one go is bad as you have just basically thrown out all the good media. so avoid doing that too.. try that and see how it goles and hopefully they should perk up.

yeah they do seem a bit more active today, i've just left them alone. i never change all the water or all the filter components at the same time so there's definitely some good bacteria still. I also use aquarium salt when doing water changes. Do you think the original 2 i had left before the 4 new ones (the 2 that seem the most stressed) could be causing 2 of the 4 to be stressed too? or do you think they just hang around with them at the bottom because they're a schooling fish? although the other 2 are happy swimming all over the place...
