They got real this after they delivered one had 20 and the other had 52... It has only been a week but they both look like they will have more fry real soon. Especially the big one (the oldest had 52 fry) is this common? also I have 4 other females who have been gravid for 8 weeks and doesn't look like they want to have those fry but they look like they are going to explode should I be worried?

Hi, welcome to fry ville. :hyper: I'm in that state myself right now. Yes, the older females have bigger broods. 25-40+ is common. The females can have babies every 28 days apparently. Sure glad we humans don't! The first time mommas can deliver very small batches, like 8. Your fry numbers sound just fine. If there are no males around the females have unfertilized eggs in them that sometimes look like fertile batches, at least mine do. When they are due to give birth they look quite square-ish, bodywise. Mine stay motionless near the surface the last day or so, don't eat, like hanging round the water heater too until they've had them.

Not sure what to say about those who haven't given birth yet. Anybody else got any thoughts? I keep my males in their own tank to let the females rest, then once in awhile can't resist putting a gorgeous male in there just to see what fabulous babies he will sire. My local petstore owner sure loved the last ones I gave her. Hey, it's a small town, I like giving them away to a good store keeper. Support local business eh? Besides I can't keep the males on bread and water forever.... Well I could but that's too mean by half, besides raising the fry and seeing what colours develop is way way cool. Have fun with your babies! Don't forget they need frequent powdered food sprinkles on the water.

welcome to livebearer world get a fry tank and grow them then sell them like me

yes depending on how much space is in your tank exc. you may want to keep a few more fem. from the brood ...then wait and see if there are any nice colors from your male fry (may not wnat too will take a while to get full coloration) but trading to LFS as soon as possible would be a good idea if you can get them all to bout an inch alot of unfranchise LFS will give u 1$ a peice :)

Length of preggers... ...
Guppies are funny creatures, they can go on having fry for 6 months on one fertalisation. . Also they tend to have a range of embryos in their belly all at different ages. Once that batch matures they are born, and the next lot move into place ready to mature. They can have fry ever 2 - 3 weeks like this until all fertilised eggs are grown on. My last young female had a batch of 12, the next day see looked quite big again and the gravid spot had grown. Now 2 weeks later shes square and ready to have the next lot -_- ..how bonkers is that
So I would say keep an eye out and expect more babies in about 2 weeks  :hyper:
As for the others... guppies can delay the maturing of fry until they think the situation is safe to give birth. This way it seems they have been preggers forever  . A lot of people panic thinking the fish is going to explode  etc. So they move them and mess them about. This only serves to stress the fish further and delay the birth even more :S . So the best thing to do is just leave them too it.
Turn up the temp to about 80/81 degrees, this will help the fry mature. If they do have problems, really there is not much you can do about it anyhow, and messing with a heavily preggers fish only causes more problems.

Good luck and let us know how many you get  :kana:
