i am not sure on the answer to this question as i only keep tropical fish;
my mums friends has a fish tank, with a goldfish in it, it has been left for near enough 10 years, without being cleaned the filters are so clogged they have stopped working, i am unsure how many litres it is. The fish is still alive and im trying to talk her into putting it in my godmothers pond, my question is, will it survive after being in a uncleaned tank for years? she is worried that it will die so she is reluctant to let me take it.

thanks

It will love been in a pond it will thrive, goldfish should only be in huge aquariums if at all. Persuade her  be the best thing she could do

ok i will get my mum to tell her tomorrow, hopefully as im off until Saturday I can get it sorted by then, can you just take it out of the tank and into the pond? or do I need to do something? like float it in the pond first?

You''ll need to acclimatise it before putting it in the pond, just putting it straight in could kill it.
Float the bag in the pond for 15/20 minutes to equalise the temperature, then open the bag & add a little of the pond water, leave it for 10 mins then add some more pond water, leave another 10 mins & add some more pond water, then after another 10 mins you can release it into the pond

Although goldfish can be extremely hardy (they are tough little things) it would probably kill the goldfish by directly dumping it in the pond.  You will need to acclimatize the fish before putting it in.

unfortunately I was unable to persuade her to let me have the fish, I have offered to go round, completely clean the tank, unblock the filters and find out how many litres it is, and test the water!
