Question About Seeding

I have managed to get a handful of matured gravel from a tank at my lfs.I want it to help kickstart my beneficial bacteria as i am at about 10 days into cycling my tank,i have suspended the gravel in a stocking in front of my air filter so that the bubbles are going through it,is this the correct method or should i be doing something else with the gravel...thanks.

Just lay it on the gravel at the bottom.
