hey i have real plants in my tank and i have a question about them.

one of them is growing at some speed and is getting quite big if it gets too big for the fish tank can i cut it down? if yes whats the best way? with scissors i might cut a fish in the crossfire

it dpends on the type of plant,

stem: get some scissors, cut off the top and replant, this makes the plant produce side shoots and go bushy, or uproot, cut off the bottom and the plant will grow upwards.

rossette: pull or cut off the leaves at the base

rhizome: snap off the whole stem, if it doesnt snap, then cut it.

Yours sounds like a stem plant, here is a usefull guide: http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=211715

To prune plants, I use a scissors. I am never in a rush to make a cut because I am usually inspecting the plant and trying to decide what to cut for the end result that I want. It also means the fish have time to easily get out of the way.
