I have a Molly in my tank that has popeye and fin rot. I began medicating him yesterday with Marycen two, but I had to take the carbon filter out of the tank and I do not have a non-carbon filter to replace it with, so I am running without a filter. I mean, my filter is running, but there is no media in it, just the bio-wheel. I did put a sponge in it tonight (Actually, a new sponge that you would use to get algae off the sides of the tank) because the water is beginning to get cloudy.

So, my question is - Will I be alright runing the tank without any filter media for five days while I treat the tank? Will the cloudy water be an issue for the fish? I have 6 small community fish in the tank and it has been cycled for about six months now. Just tested the water today and it was fine.

Thanks for the help!

50% water change daily & remedicate daily, for 10-14 days. I'm aware of the 5 day instructions, they would never sell their product if the instructions told how to use that antibiotic properly.

+1 for the water changes mate. How big is your tank by the way? you can usually buy a small quarantine tank for £10 ($20) with a basic sponge filter. This is what I do, and a place the small sponge filter into my main tank filter and run it with that to gain the beneficial bacteria, and then place it into the quarentine tank when needed.

Ill then bin this filter and add another sponge to the main tank to start that one off, you could add carbon to the Q tank and this would remove the treatments from the filter, but easy enough to get a new cheap sponge going. just a thought really mate for future reference :look:
