If I was to add the media from a new internal to my cycled cannister, how long will the new media take to seed from the cannister's media?

Hey BTT!Agreed. 1 month is about right. 6 weeks would be ideal, giving you that extra peace of mind, but 1 month should be sufficient.
The most important thing is to test your bacteria once the seeding is finished. I assume you are doing this to set up another tank? If so, once seeding is complete, add the media to the filter and test the bacteria's effectiveness by adding 3 - 4ppm of ammonia and see how long it takes to clear.
This test will give a good indication of how ready the filter media actually is before adding fish.
Good luck. If you have any other questions, just ask.

Hey BTT!
How's it going with the new status, and all the extra buttons?
Once again, congratulations BTT!![]()

I would put it "downstream" that way it won't get all clogged up with debris, but it really doesn't matter.Quick follow-up question: When you are trying to seed media, where in the flow should you put it? Would you put the mature media "downstream" or "upstream" from the media you wish to seed? Thanks!

Anything in the filter is going to have colonizes of beneficial bacteria on it.
So where ever you decide to put it, there are going to be bacteria that colonize on it.
