I noticed two angelfish hiding together today under this new cliff thing I got for the tank. When they saw me they both came out and began swimming around the tank. I've read that when angels hand at the back of the tank or hide that its a sign of something. Everyone seems healthy except for a platy I have that is really old. The tank only has guppies, 2angels, and 2platties. any ideas?

Does it seem as though they are cleaning the glass or the cliff if it is under the water? If so, they might be getting ready to breed...

Have you had them for awhile or did you just get them?

If you just got them they might just be shy and are afraid of eveything for the first weeks, mine took a while to adjust then they perked up and are always in your face . so if that is the case I would just wait on them for a while.

If this is just now happening and you had them for a while, what are you Parms? Ammonia,Nitrite,NitrAte and Ph are they all normal readings?

What is wrong with your platy exactly, he might of got sick first and now is spreading it around

That would be so cool! They used to fight but lately they have been inseparable.
This tank is in my bedroom and I don't spend very much time in there (sad isn't it ) so I haven't noticed. But I will keep an eye.

If oyu don't have a suitable surface under there or would like to move the eggs to another tank if they are breeding, you might want to add a nice big piece of slate or granite or the like there so you can transplant the adhesive eggs. :D

I have had these angels for a couple of months. They were aggressive for awhile, the smaller one kept chasing the slighty larger one around and then the larger one took care of that problem but I noticed in a very gentle way. I have been changing the decor in the tank around so they may not be used to it.

My water specs are fine.

My female platy started hanging low in July. I am very concerned about her and I don't know what to do. She hides all the time. She looks beautiful, vibrant in color. No signs of ick or stringy poo. Her male partner hangs near her all the time. Its really so sweet. The guy I got her from had his fish for a couple of years which is why I think she may be old. One thing did happen in this tank though. I treated it with melafix a couple of weeks ago and my levels spiked! I did two 50% water chanes everyday till the levels got down to normal. I was thinking that maybe this took alot out of her.

I'm starting to feel anxiety! I will get a piece of slate asap!

50% water changes is a big thing, yes. How bad was the spike?

It could be from old age aswell.
I wish you the best with her!!

It really sounds like there about to mate. Could it be that the angels have been messing with the other fish. When my angels mated they pushed every fish out of the corner of the tank and caused stress so I had to take all the other fish out for a couple of weeks. (This was 2 years ago) Since your platy is very old I guess its too much on her?!? I am not very sure. Maybe you should put her in a hospital tank or another tank where theres no mating angels?

OMG the spikes were so bad. off the charts! Never again will I add any kind of a antibacterial to my main tanks. I thought of moving her and her bf to a hospital tank but she gets very upset if I go near her and I'm afraid of stressing her even more. I have a UV sterilizer on one of my tanks and today I'm buying another on ebay for this one.

I have never noticed the angels bothering anyone except guppy fry which is part of the reason I put them in this tank. I had so many guppy fry that my tank looked like it was infested with nats. My girl gups are always giving birth and it startd to get out of control.

If breeding is a possibilty, then you might want to research on that a bit. ;)

Sorry for disregarding the other posts, but this is something I know a little about, and I'd much rather not barge in on other people's conversations. Once a day for me! :D
