I bought a 30 - 60 gallon Aqua Tech filter for my 29 gallon tank. I noticed that the way it returns water back into the tank is quite forceful. All of my plants are being pushed forward or to the side and my fish are staying on the other side of the tank, opposite of where the current is.

Is there some way to slow down the rate of return so its not pushing everything out of the way including my fish?

Easiest way is to wedge a piece of sponge in the outflow to slow it down a bit.

Yup, some form of baffle is generally the way forward. They often have levers somewhere on the pump that can slow things down as well, but many pumps get noisier if they run with more resistance.

With HOB filters like that there's also sometimes an issue with the water level of the return, if there's scope to lower it in the water, or to raise the water level slightly, then you get less gravitational drop on the return water, so less disturbance.
