i have read that danios should be kept in groups of at least three. does it matter if they are mixed? for example long fins with short fins and different colors?
i had two long fin blue danios and i just just added a short fin zebra danio.

also one of the blues and the zebra keep bumping into each other over and over, are they fighting?

yeah, there seems to be differing opinions about that, most sites say its three, some say six, and some say two.

do you know the answers to my questions?

Do you mean "dainos" (can you mix).

i mean if you need to have 6 danios together, does three blue and three zebra count as six together? or does it have to be all six blue or all six zebra?

and can it be 3 long fins and 3 short fins? or does it hafta be all 6 long or all 6 short?

Well, they are all "danios". So all of them count as the same.

k, just wanted to make sure, didnt know how picky they are or whatever especially since i cant tell if they are getting along. do you know from what i described in my original post if they are fighting or not?

Yes but Danio is their Genus. You then have different species within the genus which is what is being asked. I'm afraid I don't know the definitive answer. I know that Corydoras is the genus but different species will not always school togehter so I think the same may apply to Danios.

you understand my question :)

While there is a chance that some fish outside of a specific species will join in schooling with another species, there is no guarantee.

Schooling fish need a proper school for many reasons... most importantly to make them feel safe so they do not get stressed out which can lead to health issues.

Also, make sure you have at least 2 females for every male with Zebra Danio's as the males can get nippy with the females so it's important to have enough females to spread around the aggression.

i dont know how to tell the males apart from the females, and niether do the people who work in the pet store where i buy them.
