Is chlorinated tap water better to use in your tank than non-chlorinated water?  And do fish have less bacterial diseases in detoxified chlorinated tap water than never chlorinated well water? As the detoxified chlorinated water would have less bacteria when it was put in the tank.

Normal tap water is fine to use, just need to remember to add dechlorinator to tap water before adding to your tank as per safe levels of dosages stated.

But for your question if fish have less diseases using dechlorintaed tap water than well water.
Not sure to be honest.

There is at least one member on this forum who does use well water and does not add dechlorintor to that well water as it is safe to use.

But presumably you would need to do a number of tests before deciding if its safe to use well water rather than tap water.
I do not know much about that to be honest, so hopefully  someone who uses well water will answer or advise about that side of things for you.

The quality of water is what it is. If it has chlorine or chloramines in it, they need to be dealt with. If they do not have these things, then there is no need for dechlor. However, most dechlors do more than detoxify chlorine compounds, they may also remove heavy metals and detoxify ammonia.

I have been using my untreated well water for over 13 years and currently have 20 tanks.

The quality of the water is probably similar for either type of tap water. The difference is in whether or not your water has chlorine or chloramines. Those are bad for your fish and you want to remove those. I would recommend using prime.
