Question About Betta Poo

ok as some of you has read my betta has been very plump lately i have been feeding him peas every two days to clear him out. today i cleaned up his poo with a turkey baster to make sure he is ok. the poo has a redish tint to it black and red now i am very worried about my little boy. most of the day he is a happy betta distracting me from my school work by flaring at my books but at night two hours before bed time for him he starts to really slow down and chill at the the bottom of the tank or by the heater. is my little baby ok?

speaking of a heaters mine in this week has melted the plastic holder a little bit, which is what i suspect for some recent health problems from my little fish.
it also did recently burned me when i lowered the water and the heater stayed on. the dang thing was 25 and i am a poor collage student so i need some helpful suggestions?

also i have discovered my heater had melted though some of the plastic that holds it in place.

Not sure about the poo colour other than it could just be from what he's been eating. Stringy poo however could indicate a problem. I wouldn't worry about his bedtime ritual. My Strudel is exactly the same. Around the same time every night he goes into his cave to bed and can't even be tempted out with food The rest of the time he is really active and eats well

Good idea to turn heater off and let it go cold if you are taking level down below it. I forgot mine was on when i took water down,, put new water in and it exploded sending strips of melted plastic across the glass. Frightened me to bloomin death lol. So nowwww i'm rather more careful. As netty said if poo isn't stringy i wouldn't worry, unless someone knows better.

thanks to both of you. i will turn the heater off next time, one burn by that thing is enough. and i don't need any explosions i have enough stress with finals. not that he is helping lol. blasted thing stares at me and dances everytime i study, i had to move to the other part of the room to work gotta love him though
