Question #1
Hi, what type of filter can you recommend for a
1. 5 gal tank
2. 10 gal tank
3. 20 gal tank
4. 30 gal tank

what kind of filters were out in the market? that way i know exactly what i want when talking to the lfs.
i'm planning to house my 1.75" fantail and 1.25" blackmoor in the 10 gal tank temporarily.
20 gal for 6 tiger barbs. actually i only got 1 tiger barb at the moment until i get my 20 gal tank.
5 gal for my betta.
30 to house my goldfish in the future.

thanks in advance. :)

You will be good with AquaClear Power filters!

There are different sizes for your tanks, just go to your LFS and check them out!

tnx for your helpful reply fhm. i'l take note of that. ^_^

right now, i'm using *corner filter? each for my 1.5 and 2.5 gal. would that be enough for 5 gal?

please add more good products in case we don't have aquaclear in our area. :)

Do your know what your GPH (gallon per hour) or LPH (litre per hour) is of your corner filter? Based on that I will be able to tell you if that filter would be suitable for your 5 gallon.

For a filter to be good on a tank, you want roughly 5x, if not more turn over of your size tank in 1 hour. So lets say your corner filter is rated at 25 GPH. Take that number and divide it by 5, for your size tank, and your answer would be a 5x turn over rate. So if you can find you GPH, and it is greater than 25, I wold say you are okay!

I am almost 100% sure you will have AquaClear filters in your area, they are a pretty popular filter.

A corner filter will work fine in a 5 gallon and even will be good enough for a 10 gallon. Anything bigger than a 10 gallon, it will start to become necessary to have a power filter of some kind like a hang on back type or even a canister for a large tank. Another option is the internals like the Fluval group of filters with model numbers like 2+ or 3+.

i don't know anything about gph or lph. this filter is cheap and i bought it in a plain plastic bag without any written information about it if i could remember. but surely i'm gonna visit our lfs to check out the gph of it.

Thanks for your reply OldMan47. every morning i stir the gravel with my finger and get the wastes using the net. I do that routine after i feed them in the morning. i give them food twice a day, morning and night. so far by doing that method i could tell they are in good condition. I do 20% partial water change twice a week. i'm not sure if the filter is going to work the same way even if i do the same method with 5 gallon tank. but thanks coz i'm gonna try using the same corner filter with 5 gallon or 10 gallon tank.

here's the picture of the corner filter available in our area:

i put some gravel inside the filter thinking that after changing half of the sponge i could have a pretty good amount of bacteria on it. i just wish the filter in our place has the same corner filter performance in your country. hope it makes sense. ^_^

Yeah, like OM47 said, it should be just fine in a 5 and or 10 gallon.
