Hi guys. I'm hoping someone will tell me what to do ;) I've spotted a Rio 180 tank going fairly cheap (£80 ono) locally and I don't know if I should buy it.

My justification for buying it would be that I have a Chinese Algae Eater which I'm unable to re-home and his tank is particularly small. Also, that I want a tropical tank and this would fit the bill nicely. Now, I think I have enough space in my flat. The tank is on a metal stand so thats taken care of, and it looks to be in OK condition but with no filter (I don't think).

I'm a bit poor this month, so I'm thinking a paypal/credit card purchase, and then after payday sort it out... At least, thats what I'm telling myself ;)

Should I/Shouldn't I??

Hehe, All I have to go by is this image:

Tough call. You don't have the money on you now and you need to buy equipment for it to boot. Price out everything you need for it and see. Personally, I wouldn't. But if you think you'll regret not getting it, then it sounds like you want it.

Hmn. Since looking at this tank, I've spotted a few, more manaegable tanks, specifically a Rio 120. This one comes with a tank stand and possible 2 killifish, and looks a little better.

But, to throw a spanner in the works, the Rio 180 guy is offering to deliver now! I might flip a coin...

What do you mean by manageable?. If you mean size, then get the biggest one you have room for. They're actually less work than small tanks. My 4ft takes 1 hour of maintenance every ten days.

I'm just thinking that a 180 is quite large. 100ltr more than my current "big" tank. Its daunting!

Don't waste a second worrying about a larger tank. Once the cycling's finished, you'll find that with a larger body of water, the quality is easier to keep in check. Things go wrong far quicker in a 10g than a 50g. Regular (1-2 weeks) water changes are all you'll need to do. Take my word for it; I started with a 3ft tank, then went to a 4ft a couple of months later. Never had any water quality problems; I do a 30% water change every 10 days. Get things right from the start and you shouldn't have any problems. My tank maintenance takes me under an hour every 10 days. Go on, you know you want to..........
