on the coral index when it says temperment and it can vary from peacefull to highly aggrevise
how do you meen or what does it do to become aggresive its just a coral isnt it i looked on the internet and its just confused be there probally a simple answer but i cant find it lol

Most corals are capeable of stinging, an aggressive coral will probably have sweeper tentacles that come out at night and sting (and often kill) neighboring corals. Some corals can wage a "chemical war" with others in the tank by releasing chemicals into the water, though thats normally not too much of a problem.

Actually, coral aggression can become a very big problem. In general, LPS have tentacles full of nematocysts which will stick to neighboring corals and essentially dissolve them on contact. These tentacles can be long or short depending on the LPS and they can be out day or night. Some LPS can co-exist, while others will kill each other if close enough.

Most SPS have no tentacles and are weak. They can usually be out-competed by any other coral.

Most softies just release chemicals into the water that inhibit the calcification of hard corals, stunting their growth. This can be combated with activated carbon. The exception is mushrooms, especially actinodisus genus ones have nematocysts in their flesh that can sting/kill some hard orals just like LPS.

If your tank and corals are researched properly, you can keep a mixed tank, but you can't just assume anything will be fine with one another.

Skifletch,

I am interested in knowing what diversity of corals and sizes of each coral you have in your larger reef tank? I am wanting a larger variety of coral types and colors in my 55 gal tank. Currently have mushrooms, round/star/glove polyps, 2 torch corals, 2 kenya tree corals all doing good.
