Q: About Fish Poo

Sorry to be so blunt and hope you are not eating.....

I am new and wanted to know can you tell a fishes health by its poo.

The reason I ask is that normally the poo hangs down like a brown thread and today it is white.....

The colour of there poo may vary depending on what you have fed them. When my fish have been fed garden peas there poo will be green and tetra granules gives them red poo. Thats enough poo from me

The colour of there poo may vary depending on what you have fed them. When my fish have been fed garden peas there poo will be green and tetra granules gives them red poo. Thats enough poo from me

I'll back that up! My fish have red poos when I give them the sera granulated cichlid food Bless them are their coloured poos! I just hate seeing the poo floating around! I'll catch it on water change day lol. Must move all the rocks etc give it a vac once a month!

Read something where it said the poo should be solid and not stringy.................or was that the doctor telling me!

yes fish poo is an indicator of health. is this white poo stringy or mucusy? if its abnormal white stringy looking poo usually means youve got a problem. can you get a pic of said poo dangling from the fish?

I am feeding them flakes so was expecting brown poos

I fed mine bloodworms the other day and blood worms came out the other end, which was a very odd sight!!!

Strictly speaking, stringy faeces is a sign of over feeding. It should be almost pellet like. Mines been eating duckweed off the surface of the tank for about four days now and there waste has been small, bright green pellets and lots of them!

Mine is slightly that ......stringy Best feed them less if that's the case
