Prycrete? (pykes concrete)
do you think that pycrete would be a better alternative to ice, given that pycrete takes about 100 times longer to melt than ice.
obviously the pycrete would have to be in a sealed container, but then so would the ice.
I myself do not have this problem, touch wood, but I think it is a viable option.

BTW for those that don't know what pycrete is
it is a 14% mixture of woodshaveings in water then frozen. (so 1ltr of woodshavings to 7.14 ltr of water)
It was invented by a Mr Pyke during WW2 and is very strong and has very weird properties. for instance a 3cm collum of pycrete could hold up a 3000lb weight.

I'd imagine it would be fine. Woodshaving shouldn't be harmful to fish, and as it would be sealed anyway, it would be a good idea. *OohFeeshy has the urge to make some... theres a big bag of woodshavings in the conservatory*

It wouldn't lower the temperature as quickly as ice would, why not just wrap an ice pack in a thin bit of that foam wrap stuff and toss that in?

Seems to me that lowering the temp more slowly would make it even more desireable. Don't want your fish to go into shock from the temp change.
