Putting Fish Into Tank

Well I am now the proud owner of 2 Golden Honey Gouramis, 1 Red Platy, 1 black and white (the name begane with C?)Platy and 1 yellow one with black markings that in my excitement I forgot to look at the name!

They seem ok at the moment, looking around a lot. My first bit of paranoia is I'm not entirely sure both my Gouramis are female (one is much bigger than the other) but I guess I'll find out soon enough and cross that bridge when I come to it.

How long do I have to leave the light off for?

About an hour or so should be fine, just gives them a little time to settle in, not sure if you've ever noticed but when your tank lights are off then fish tend to act more relaxed and natural.

Did you net them to put them in the tank?

Andy

Yeah. The yellow Platy really wanted to live in the bag forever I think.

I'm searching though Platy photos to try and match them.

Check out this site -> LINK

You may be able to identify them on there, I'm guessing the one beginning with 'C' will be a crescent, also known as a mickey mouse platy as they have markings on the tail that looks like mickey mouses head on its side lol

Andy

Yeah it does look a bit like a Mickey Mouse. The name began with C, kinda reminded me of cows/milk

Thanks :)

Good luck and try and give us some flashless photos if you can! ;)

Will do tomorrow if I can. I'm not entirely sure about the health of some of them. Especially Elmo (red platy). He's still seriously hiding and I just gave them some food.....the other's gobbled it but he didn't touch it. There's deffo a lot of red gills too :(

Hopefully this is just my usual over worrying.

I would say it is over worrying, Give the fish a chance to settle down.

We got our 4th fish today a GBR, it took about 3 hours to settle in with the other fish before the pecking order was established.

It took our Honey Gourami about 3 days before it started eating properly, it was always last to go and first to hide. Now with the 4 fish they all go at the same time and swim and hide together happily.

This is exactly what the yellow one looks like --? http://www.rarelivebearers.com/images/Male%20Yellow%20MM.jpg

anyone know what he is?

Its very normal for fish to be very shy and not eat for the first 24-48 hours after you re-home them. Be very conservative with feeding for this first week, your fish probably will be too stressed to eat, plus very little food will mean your tank bacteria will have the best chance to adapt to the new fish bioload without giving you critical toxin (ammonia, nitrite) levels. For example, I gave my 6 Pearl Danios 4 Tetramin crisps broken up into fragments every other day for the first week.

As for the red gills, have you done a water test today for ammonia and nitrites? I would personally do morning and night tests for this first fortnight and be ready for 50% water changes daily

Yeah my water's all clear. They actually look a bit better than they did yesterday so I'm wondering if the prob was LFS water.

Pah, 50% water changes daily?????????
