I am putting our 2 males into a 10 gallon this weekend hopefully due to the weather here in Pennsylvania getting a little cooler than it was in mid Summer, the water is starting to get a little cooler in the house and I want to make sure that the water in my betta tank is where it should be. I was thinking about putting some aquarium gravel into the 10 gallon that will be divided by a divider I bought at Petco a few years back, then taking the gravel from my 5.5 gallon tank which has been cycled about 8 weeks and spreading it on top of the new gravel and then add the ornaments and filter from the cycled tank in/on the 10 gallon. Would this pretty much start the cycle process automatically or should I give it some time?

Just make sure the fish cannot jump over the divider to get at each other as they sometimes do. I thik you need to give the cycle some time on your 10 gallon still.

you don't actually cycle a tank, you cycle a filter, so if the filter being used is already cycled then you don't need to cycle it.
