My newest tank has a bit of a black / purple theme going so I was wondering if anyone can name me purple plants that are available.

So far I only found Alternanthera reineckii which comes in purple or pink and seapets is selling it at a good price. Are there any other similar plants? Nothing green please, I want this tank to be totally different to my other tank.

Almost all the plants that are pinky purple colours require high light and CO2 injection I think.

Red Tiger lotus is pretty undemading

they don't need highlight, a C02 addition does help though, even a liquid C02 option.

i grew these under 'low light'

certain red plants do good in low light, certain plants remain red. Like these...

see here, the Alternanthera reineckii mini, grown under 2 t8's

Crypt wendtii brown ?
The Alternanthera's bit cheaper here

Thanks all, especially ianho :good:

I went to PaH and was pleased that they had one pot of alternathera reineckii left. I also picked up a bacopa caroliana, which is green but will have lilac flowers on it. I also found another purple plant at small fish shop, but I don't know the name. Will add a picture later tonight, would be great if you could help me identify it.

I have just checked ebay and found this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CO2-tetra-optimat-extra-can-of-gas-aquarium-liquid-plant-food-/220999405781?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Fish&hash=item33749750d5#ht_500wt_969 Do I need to get it or do you think the plants will thrive anyway?

Here is a shot of the tank with the reineckii in the middle. The plant on the left is the bacopa one. The one on the right is just to disguise the filter for now.

Could someone please identify this plant for me?

Please excuse my photography skills  Colours are much prettier in real. Can you see why I wanted to go for the purple plants? All is black and the slate is purple, hence I wanted this lovely colour for the plants.

Thanks shoulders and stu! That's the one, will do some research on it.

So, Co2 needed or not? Should I just wait and see what happens? The roots of all plants were quite strong so they are off to a good start.

just be aware that the reineckii lower part may melt, this is due to the plants being grown out of water. Just nip the tops off to about 4-5 inches and re plant. It will grow, just bare with it.

Just admiring your beautiful plants again. *jealous*
Where did you get them all from? Have been researching those online, but can't find much.

these are all from various places, but the are either Tropica or Aquafluer plants. You will have to pay for decent plants but IMO they are worth it. Either Aquaessentials or the Green machine are very good online places.

Thanks ianho! You are a star. Have found another one today, the ludwiga in your bottom picture. I'm getting there, it's slowly coming together :)
