Hi I have used Purigen on tanks before and it is absolutely superb, but I have a couple of questions I need to find the answers too

1)In my main planted tank where I am dossing ferts, will the Purigen soak up all the nutrients leaving my plants hungry??

2)On another tank I am trying to lower the PH and am about to start using peat granules in my filter, will the Purigen stop this from lowering the PH?

Thank you in advance

Jay

No reason why you can't have a high tech tank and stained water ;) :good:

And btw, i am well pissed off after reading your journal. :grr:

So the stained water will not effect plant growth?? that's great as I have cardinals in there and my PH has been rising its at 7 now for some reason, was 6!! so was going to lower it with the Peat and CO2.

Your pissed off lol whys that?

Cos it's stunning and mine isn't.

No, stained water shouldn't affect plant growth. As long as it isn't black and the light is still able to filter through to the lower levels there is no reason why any plants should suffer as far as i am aware. If the peat granules do stain the water too much then maybe consider Catappa leaves, mopani/bogwood or alder cones. On my Mopani tank i was running Purigen and it didn't remove the staining.

Wow that means alot coming from you as your tanks are epic! especially the Puffer and malawi tanks!! they are brilliant. Think im going to go 50/50 tap and RO water and use the CO2 and wood to bring the PH down. Thanks for all the great advise mate it really is appreciated!!

Lol, no worries. The Co2 should bring the PH down alone, but obviously the RO will help to soften the water also. I see you're at 27 with the Rams, i would up it to 28. Have you got some flat stones for the female to lay her eggs on?

yeah the reason i'm at 27 is because I have some CPD's in there with them. I am going to be getting a aquanano 40 to put the CPD's in and then I will increase the temp to 28c. I do have some large ish pebbles somewhere, I didn't think they'd look to spawn for a while as they are both very young, maybe worth putting 1 in just in case?
