Hi people ....bit of advice needed

After reading about water clarity using purigen thought I will try it out.... :good:

question is i run a EX1200 and a fluval 305 i have purchased 2 pouches of said stuff and not sure whether to put both in one filter or buy another 2 and put in both ......... or 1 pouch in both filters ???

probably best to put them both in the same filter so that they create a complete layer within one of the compartments. In theory all the water should eventually go through the filter with it in, will just take a bit longer. Having it in both would obviously be a bit better, but more expensive!

which filter do you find the easiest to access and maintain? pick that one.

i would probably use one pouch then swap it over for a new one when it needs cleaning (i belive this stuff can be cleaned and reused using bleach?? i might be wrong....but it doesnt sound like a 5 minute job to clean them)

I started using Purigen about a month or so ago. You don't mention the size of your tank, but one 100ml pouch will treat 100g. HOWEVER, I'm using an AquaClear 70 HOB filter* (60g tank) and one pouch left significant room around it for water to bypass, so I have placed two pouches side by side so all water must pass through one or the other.
Purigen is usually good for about 6 months although the time interval is relative to the amount of disolved organics in the water that it has adsorbed so time intervals may vary significantly.

As another poster points out it is a 2 day process to regenerate Purigen - 1 day to soak in 50/50 bleach/water and another day to soak in water/conditioner to de-chlorinate. However, I don't see an issue running for a couple of days without it.
If you do purchase backups to cycle, according to Seachem Tech Support, regenerated Purigen must be kept wet in a plastic bag as once used, if it dries out it may crack and become less effective.

Purigen is awesome btw. My water is very crystal clear and reminds me of the polish I saw back in the day when I periodically ran a Vortex diatom filter.

*Note: I actually have two AC 70 filters on my tank. One as mentioned above is sponge, purigen and floss (mechanical). The other is loaded with Seachem Matrix and uses a Fluval Edge sponge pre-filter on the intake tube (biological).

Pick the 305. One of my tanks also runs a TetraTEC EX1200 and a Fluval 305 and i made mine into 3 (1 was for another tank) then added one in each half of the top compartment as it is split with a divider. I then added about 35mm of filter wool on top of each bag.

Tizers idea makes sense, but i will just buy another 250g tub of it from eBay.

Cheers guys...........think I'll stick them in the 1200 for now and see how it goes then maybe buy another 2 for the 305

Pinch em out your missus's tight drawer. Cut the feet out and tie knots at the end. Job done. Put the tights back in the drawer and take a picture when she goes to put them on next time...
