Anyone know if they ghost shrimp can hur thte puffers?

i heard someone say that they've seen a ghost catch and eat guppy fry and i was wondering if they could be a threat to my dwarfs because they dont seem too agressive (yet) just wanted to double check this

i'm pretty sure they would turn the ghost into a quick meal though
better safe then sorry

i will probably request smaller ghosts or something to try to prevent this as some of the ones my lfs has are rather large!

Yes, the shrimps would be in a lot more danger than the puffers.

The puffers would rip the shrimps apart in no time at all.

The ghost shrimp probably ate the fry dead off the substrate ghosts dont have the equipment to catch fast moveing fry. Also thw DP will eat every last ghost shrimp in the tank mine ate off all the eyes and left the bodys for my redfin shark.

Opcn

It's funny but I have never had any problem with my dwarf puffers attacking shrimp. I keep a tank full of amano shrimp and my puffers completely ignore them.

i thought so, but like i mentioned better safe than sorry

I even suggested to this person (someone onthe forums a while back) that the fry may have died and the shrimp was cleaning up but they said that they saw it catch the fry and start eating

who knows?!
i'll try getting them some shrimp tomorrow as they dont seem very impressed with the thawed frozen blood worms even though they did it it all but after some time

Getting puffers to eat dried/frozen food (or any dead food for that matter) is like winning the lotto. It's more than likely not gonna happen. I feed mine brine shrimp consistantly and occasionaly black/blood worms for a treat.

How strange, Mine eat frozen bloodworm, dried tubifex, shrimp pellets, finely chopped cooked mussell & even steal the tetra's flakes from time to time.

But they certainly do prefer to stalk and eat live bloodworm, artemia, daphnia and snails.

I once had a small group of figure 8s , and one of them ate doramin food sticks , looked like he was smoking a cigar , I've never won big at lotto , but I guess that was pretty close . earthworms , flies , beetles , freeze dried , frozen food . I never had a problem feeding any of the others . puffers love shrimp and snails .

me too my fahaka puffer will eat anything dead or alive  shrimp, mussels, cockles, prawns, snails, worms etc etc etc.. and from what I've read this isn't really all that unusual

I guess I've given some mis-information. Sorry! I've actually done a little research and it seems like many people can get their puffers to eat frozen foods. I've had no such luck:( Or maybe I'm too scared to get not feed mine long enough that they're hungry enough to eat non-living food. I spoil them! I've had luck with live worms, shrimp, and recently snails. They seem to really like the snails, attacking snails 10 times bigger than they are.

it's not the fact that he's too hungry to pass up the dead/frozen food he's small enough that I can feed him every day and he just eats whatever I give him.. maybe i'm just lucky.. I'm sure if you try your puffs with some shrimp etc they'll happily eat it.. try holding it in the tank and let them take if from you.. cool :D

I have quite a strong current in my tank which means the dead food 'moves'.. maybe that's why they'll eat anything :D

let him[ them] go a couple of days without food , He'll be forced to route around and forage for something to eat , and maybe change his tune about frozen food . They really can go longer without eating then you'd probably think . tough love , my puffers would shred malayan snails , and earthworms . Most fish tend to swallow , while puffers chew , and they do it so well .
