I work in a school and we took the class up to our lfs this morning to buy some fish food. The girl in there didnt know the names of any tropical fish, there were dead ones in some of the tanks. There was about 6 figure of 8 puffers (I think that is what they are called) I said to the girl do you know what they are? Havent a clue....she replied...I said I dont think they should be in with those other fish and they should be in brackish water...she just walked off... I couldnt moan as I had the kids with me but I will next time. I did ask girl on till how they get their tropical fish in...she said we just order any and have to take what comes!

Can you keep the figure of 8 puffers with other fish? There is one left at the lfs and it is in a poor state. The staff said we sold the others quickly. I said that one is getting bitten, yes they had noticed!....not sure who was doing it.... :-(

start setting up a small tnk like my growout.use a small heater and an airstone.add ur marine salt once u get it to the tank but keep the puff in a container in the fresh water for a while as the small tank sets up.

im just tellin u how to save him.not keep him

you can keep these fish with some brackish fish like bumble bee gobies, knight gobies, and some other select tank mates. these puffers (like all puffers) are big fin nippers and aggressive. (though figure 8's seem to be the most peaceful puffer ive kept so far, im not saying they are peaceful but they are certainly the least aggressive). Check the fishindex under oddballs, youll find the ID that i wrote on this species.

Thanks for replying, but went to lfs and the puffer had gone..dead or sold...we shall never know. Went to my other lfs and they had got pigmy puffers so sweet I resisted the temptation though!

if u really like the puffers u can put in a order for most fish stores
