Puffers & Plecs

well my tanks cycling , ive got plenty of time to look into what i want to do inside the tank,ive decided that i will be keeping puffers , my tank is 180 ltrs , so im thinking at least 2 , or more ?? f8 puffers.

id also [ of course ] want some plecs , smallish that dont hide constantly and are not *boring* to look at , can anyone offer me any advice , on the amount of puffers that i might be able to keep , and also , the plecs , as mentioned, once ive got a better idea [ from you guys ] my intention is to then learn about the plecs , the LFS has told me that when i buy my puffer/s they will find out where excatly they came from , so that i can replicate the same environment in my tank , with their help .

please help ?

I don't have any advise for you I'm afraid. Not sure how many puffers u can keep in that size of tank, are they territorial?

40gallon tank, personally I would breed puffers in it with a small plec like a bn. Scape one half as dense planting and the other fairly bare like an oasis fringing on the desert.

salty , that is oddly enough what i had planned, but i didnt say anything , lol [ minus the breeding ]

would you say 3 puffers would be acceptable , and comfortable ?

i dont really want just a bn , ive read they can be quite messy when it comes to waste ? and besides that id like a plec with some *bling* ?

I am not to hot on my plecos but a Zeba pleco would bring definite "wow" factor and stay sufficiently small. I would think 3 puffers would be fine in a 40 gallon perhaps get 4 then their is a higher chance you will see them.

zebra plecs are very expensive , and not a good idea in a newly cycled tank ?

You don't have to put it in their at the same time as the puffers...... General rule the more beautiful the fish the more expensive it is, unless they are very common as they are easy to breed.

sry for not saying more than no. it was the question of the topic and maybe its just me but puffers will take bites out of anything fleshy. species only is usualy the norm for puffers. i guess just see how it goes but i wouldnt wana be in a tank with these little monsters.

Figure 8's are more docile then most puffer fish and they can go in a community tank although it does depend on personal temperament of the specific puffer.
