I popped in my local Walmart today to pick up some supplies for my new puppy :)wub:), and checked in on the fish... I was surprised to see green spotted puffers, which they've never had in stock before, and then noticed that they were being housed with four African clawed frogs... two of which had an empty, bloody eye socket and another was missing a chunk of skin on his head and you could see his skull :|

I got an employee I know to call the department manager, but after 20 minutes she never showed up, so I just left a note with the employee and he said he'd get it to her for me. Afterwards I dug a net out of their supply cabinet and relocated the froggies to a safer tank so none would be left completely blind.... Am I the only one who sees a problem here? I expect bad conditions at places like that, but gosh darnit, why is it so hard to even get somebody to come do something about it once it is drawn to their attention?? You'd think somebody besides the guy in an electric wheelchair who works in the garden center would care enough to do something about it! :X

*Ahem*
Yeah, just needed to rant a bit, I'm better now.

Ah, that's a shame. A lot of people seem to assume that 'small' means 'harmless', when it comes to puffers...

I have to say, when I saw the tank of 30-odd GSP in my Walmart last year, I just let go of the buggy and never went back. I can pretty much guarantee that none of those puffers went to appropriate homes.

Walmart to me is not worth the fifty cents I might save on groceries.

Amen to that, pica. I've recently decided to boycott Walmart. Been thinking about doing it for years, and finally just had to do it.

Even when I used to shop there, I never bought any fish, or any live creature, from there. It just always seemed wrong to me that a place like that would be allowed to sell live creatures, other than plants. Luckily I've never seen puffers there.

I still go to Walmart sometimes with friends or family that need to get something, but I personally do not buy anything there. However, I'm thinking about doing what many members on here do and carry a pen and post-it notes with me for the times I do go. Leaving notes has to do some good.

The only good thing about Wal-Mart, especially the 24 hour ones, is to go and walk around, raise hell and get kicked out. I never spend any money but I'll go with friends, grab a basketball and dribble around the store or pick up some baseball gloves and a ball and play catch...I did it for 45 minutes before any employee noticed at 2:30 in the morning....that's about all they are good for. I have rescued some sorry looking fish from my local Wal-Mart, always get them free, just talk to the manager who's actually a cool guy and lets me have them.

There have been too many threads started just to bash Walmart. :/ Let's give the subject a rest.
