Hey people, me here again to annoy you with probably obvious questions....

So as some of you may know I am/was dead set on having my Roma 125L (33 US GALLON) as a fairy cichlid species only tank.

However after further research this weekend I have found that it's possible to have Pseudotropheus saulosi in a tank my size and these would add more colour and I think would be my preferred option. Here is a image of the species in a 30G tank.

So my main question is what are the views of you good folk on here? In your opinions will it work? does anyone have ideas on numbers? have you tried this?

I'm really excited with the possibility as having one species with such a contrast in colour would be appealing and set the tank off a treat. Also please bare in mind that I would hope to upgrade this thank to a 4ft plus within 18 months.

yeah do it a four foot would be great for saulosi i keep 12 in a 3x2x2

Sadly my tanks not 4 foot YET its just 3 foot. However I just hope i can find a local stockist. Their doesnt seem to be many from enquires so far :S if anyone knows any in the birmingham area I'd be very grateful.

Do you think 2 males and 5-6 females could cope in a 3ft tank or should i just go 1 male 4 females

I had already found both of those link via google but thanks. I've also read through threads on the Cichlid forum from people who have kept them in this size a tank. Just wanted some feedback from you guys as in the last few weeks I feel you have all helped me alot and i value the opinions of people on this forum.

I noticed the one page states that they should only be in tanks of 55 gallon plus which is contrary to all the other practical scenarios I've been seeing. Guess it somewhat depends on the individual fishes.

What is your opinion on the matter?

go for juvies so you wond need to worry about the tank size so much id get 20! there is a chap in essex who sells and posts on aquarists classifieds! then sart saving for the bigger tank :good:

Oh dear, thats not good mate, must be heartbreaking for you!

This setup would certainly be alot more colourful than a brichardi tank! lol! Although strangely enough something i have never been interested in, no idea why because there is some brilliant colours available!

Another interesting species i have come across is Telmatochromis Burgeoni... The males have similar colouration to the Fairies with the female being almost black. They're shellies by nature but do well with rocks and caves. Worth a look mate if you were still thinking of going the Brichardi route. :good:

I no 18 days probably isn't actually long into a cycle but it becomes so hard to just see a empty tank when there are so many fish you want. I'm not ruling out the Brichardi as I do think they are stunning but extra colour would endear them to the Girlfriend more haha

are you going for the saulosi?
fishless cycle i remember the days
sure you can but a bottle nowdays that starts your tank in a few hours?
i just lend my mates a seeded filter now and 50% of one of the tanks water instant tank :good:
