my tank is a 5ft jewel bow front, it is well stocked with soft corals and a good selection of fish, 4 months ago i added a sump tank to my set up, in which i have put a blue 3000 proteen skimmer which in the main has worked fine but occassionaly has started to produce wet foam at a very fast rate this has eventually corrected it self but last week i switched my proteen skimmer off to do a water change when i swithed it back on it once again started producing wet foam at a very fast rate i have tryed everything even stripping the pump down and cleaning it i have put a new ventura pipe on it still continues to pump wet foam this has gone on now for about a week has any one got any ideas.

BernRob, I am going to move this for you. Most of us here in the Hardware and DIY section are completely ignorant of things like skimmers.

:hi: to TFF and the salty side of the forum

I'm afraid I dont have the skimmer you are referring to, however I would check:

Is the pump in the correct position, does moving in higher make any difference?
Change the air intake, what happens?
Have you added anything different to the tank to make the skimmer go mad, phyto for example?
Have you cleaned out the skimmer with something?

If you still can't figure it out after all Seffie's advice, give the company a call :)

Also, some foods may make the skimmer freak out. Have you had anything die in your tank? Chemical warfare with the corals? just trying to think of more possibilities.

had some advice from a local aquarium going to try a tap on the air outlet will let you know nothing has died in tank and water quality is perfect.....
