hi all, i'm currently deciding whether to have 2 of my tanks with sand or gravel . I've just found 30kg of silica sand for £16.50 so this is swaying me to buy it now.
Anyone any pro's & con's on this sand?
My last 4ft tank i had sand which was very very fine almost powdery & quite soft, but i don't know what kind of sand.

I'm struggling to find gravel or sand at a good price delivered.
I really do like gravel & i do like sand but can't decide which ARGH ! lol

I use argos playsand £2.87 for 15kg

Works a treat just needs a good clean.

Yep just seen this on another thread, I cant believe how cheap that is!

Any idea how much i need for a 4ft tank & a 3ft tank? I dont want a thick layer of sand though. 2 bags enough?
Thanks x

hmm it really does depend on how thick you want it, i'd get 3 or 4 bags just in case, then you have room for error, just give it a good wash, i like it better than silica sand if im honest, it's far cheaper and IMHO looks better and i have used both in my tanks.

I defo don't want it thick, Prob about 1inch ish not sure til i put it in stand back & look if you get me lol . Only reason i sadi 2 bags is our local argos has 2 left in stock lol, I'm trying to get someone to give me a lift to collect as i don't drive & being pregnant will struggle to get it home on my own but have decided i'm going with the play sand, i've been looking through tank set ups with it & they look fab .

Thanks for the info! xx

I have a 4ft by 2ft tank and used two bags of argos play sand. I am considering adding another bag but I don't want it too deep.

ah hey guys,

i got gravel at the moment, but i have catfish in there, corys to be exact and i dont want their feeler things  :p to get hurt.

is it possible to change from gravel to sand? or would it upset it, as it is a 40 gallon fully cycled? also i take it all the fish would have to be remoed?

Oh i read somewhere on here that you can do it with the fish in, If i can find the post i'll paste the link here.
Do you have somewhere to put the fish to do it without them being in?
