Hi, I'm new to the fish world and I'm using my boyfriends account on here. I just got a crown tailed betta and five fancy guppies. I put them into a 10 gallon tank with a 10 gallon filter. One of the guppies died from shock and the betta attacked and killed another. I had to remove the betta and put it into it's own fish bowl. I also removed my guppies and put them into my boyfriends tank so I could cycle mine for 30 days (which I had no idea I needed to do until he told me.) Is my betta just vicious or am I doing this wrong? Maybe I need a better breed of fish to put it with?

Hello there 
Bettas and guppies rarely mix as bettas feel guppies as a threat (like other male bettas) because of there flowing fins and colours.
Bettas do fine on there own really, there is a range of fish that may be suited to live with your betta but that also depends on the betta himself.
As for cycling your tank, have a read on here or do some research to ensure it is getting done correct. 30 days isn't long to cycle unless you are using mature filter media.

Good advice given above. Guppies aren't good tankmates for bettas. Corys make excellent tank mates

Welcome you could actually have some of the mature media out your boyfriends tank (if thats good with him) to kick start and speed up your cycle greatly
then the betta could go back in as he doesn't produce much ammonia anyway, just make sure you add fish slowly and check the levels regular
Guppies as said are not ideal tankmates, i have a divided tank with 3 males then a female guppy in another section and the betta next to her goes mad. he won't tolerate anything in 'his' space apart from Khuli loaches
