Prolonged Discus Problem

Flukes are not that easy to get rid of seen lots of articles so they very hard to get rid of.
I would try the wormer plus again, you have to retreat to kill the eggs.
The first treatment should kill the adults but not the eggs, this is why you have to do a four week treatment.

I have been treating with the Interpet med now for just 24(ish) hours, and there are already signs of inprovement. There is less flashing going on, compared to this time yesturday, the stressed only fish has had its stress bars become less prominant, and the jet black fish is strating to get its colour back :hyper: All looking good so far :good:
I know gill flukes and velvet can lingure for quite a while, so if all the symptoms are gone at the end of the week, shall I continue with another weeks meds? Or shall I call it a day there?
That's good the fish is looking better after the Interpet meds.

As Wilder suggested keep treating for a while, at least 2 weeks. The medications kill the adults parasites but the eggs hatch out continually over time and if you stop treating to early the fish can become reinfected. The eggs normally hatch out within a week or so, particularly in warm water.
Don't change medications during treatment. If the Interpet one seems to be doing the job keep using it until the problem has cleared up.

Would there be any risk in using both the Interpet med, and the wormer plus symaltaniously? The interpet med is based on Formaldahyde (formalin) and the wormer plus is based on flubendazole. As far as I can tell, they are similar compounds, but my question is if they would react to each other -_- I don't usualy like mixing meds, but you, Wilder, seem to be very fond of the wormer plus stuff and I am reluctant to change from a med that appears to be working.

Thanks to all

try not to mix medications. Finish treating with one, do some big water changes each day for a few days to a week, then treat with the other.
Many medications have similar ingredients and if you start mixing them you can quickly overdose a tank and poison all the fish.

Never used the wormer plus heard it was meant to be good.
I agree one med only.
Good luck.

any updates? hope its all gone okay. i once had a tetra with a fluke, i dosed with protozin and it was gone after a week.

Hi,
Update as requested. The visible signs of problems are gone, just stress lines left, with the exception of the discus that was jet black. S/he has developed culmnaris (spelling). I don't want to change treatments to cover this, in fear of repercussions, so I am continuing treatment for flukes and velvet to clear this out of the system. Instead I have opted for salt bathing this fish, as s/he is the only one apparently affected. I am now three baths into treatment, and almost all of the infetion is gone. I am hoping that it will have healed by the morning, so that a fourth won't be necissary.

Thanks for your concern :good:

Most articles says once flukes have gone back up with a bacterial med.
I know its a pain but you have done alot of work on your fish I wouldn't miss the last stage out now.
Good luck.

I'm not yed done treating for the flukes. One of the articles you brought up mentioned that the have a three week life cycle, and they can re-infect if there are no meds in there for them after the symptoms have cleared.

All the best, and thanks again for your input

Ok I understand now.
Flukes are not easy to get rid of as you have to no when to treat to kill the new hatched eggs before they turn into adults and start the process of again.
I had a battle with flukes till I got that flubenol.
Good luck.
