After weeks of no movement with my ammonia at 2ppm, and just about giving up hope,  I tested the water today, and the ammonia has come back at 0.50 ppm!

I am so excited, because just recently I was told I wouldn't be able to cycle my tank without having a heater.
It seems like this is not the case :) I will be hopefully getting a new heater soon.

Any advice on where to go from here? :)

Yay! Great news Ashley!
P.S - I never said it couldn't be done. I said it would take a while, as I'm sure you've figured out lol.

It's odd that your nitrites are still showing zero - where did the ammonia go?

Yay ash! Now when you get a heater, just slowly raise heat. I wish I saw your face, your false test face was pricesless :p

She has plants. Maybe thats it

Plants can certainly use ammonia, but they would have done so at a steady rate for the last few weeks, unless Ashley has added a lot of plants just recently.  I rather get the impression that this is a sudden drop more characteristic of bacterial action, which should have produced some corresponding nitrite.

which the plants can soak up at a surprising rate i know in both of my tanks i dont need to do water changes because my plants take up 99 percent of the nitrates it owuld take about a month for my nitrate to get up to 30ppm
