The only viable place I have to put a 63g tank is in front of a radiator in my kitchen, anyone had problems with doing this before? Im not overly concerned about the temperature of the water aspect to it, I need to keep this tank between 84-88f anyway, so in winter when the radiator is on, it might actually be of benefit, because currently I have 2 x 300w heater on full pelt trying to keep this temperature stable. The radiator is also on a own thermostat, so can be turned up or down as required.

My main concern is whether the heat from the radiator will cause problems for the tank glass. The tank will be about 10cm in front of the radiator, so not sitting right on it, allowing for heat to still warm the room and for ventilation and will also be on a stand that is the height of the radiator, so the tank itself will be above (hope that makes sense).

Can you turn the radiator off? if i put mine near Radiators i always switch them off, they can over heat your water up, If you can't switch it off then i wouldnt put the tank there, althought, i don't know for sure what it will do, As i've always turned my Radiators off, if you do put it there then keep an eye on it.

Yes I can turn it off, but I dont want to, this is an old house and is hard enough to heat during the winter without turning the radiator off, I at least need some heat coming from it. Im not concerned about the water temp, as I said, I need it warm anyway, Im just wondering if the heat from the radiator will effect the tank glass or warp the cabinet in anyway :)

i doubt very much the heat would crack the tank or warp the cabinet , but the ambient heat can have quite an effect on water temperature. also having the tank in front of the radiator like that , even if you use a 10cm gap , you would be surprised how much it will block the heat from the radiator , which if the place is a cold as you say in winter wouldnt be too good. do you own or rent? if you own another fairly straigh-forward sollution would be to move the radiator. if you rent , just isolate the rad using the thermostat , and get a cheap oil-filled rad to use in the winter , they are pretty good and cheap as chips to run

Rented heap of a house matey :( Cant move the radiator, frankly it probably holds the wall up

May well be the only option to use a oil filled one in place, will have to keep an eye on the temp see what happens I guess, thanks.
