HI,

I have recently set up a 10gal Fry tank for my guppys with the following:

Heater
Sponge Filter (Cut from my main tank)
Sand substrate from my main tank
Water from my main tank
3 Plant cuttings

I have had about 6 batches of Fry & they keep dying after about 2-3 days??

At first i thought it was becuase I was moving them from one tank to the other so I put my fry trap and pregnant mother into the Fry tank. Yet again ive woken up to about 8 dead babies today....

Any advise would be appreciated..

I have very few ideas to help. I feed mine and they grow. Everything you have said points to getting a high survival rate, the heater to match temperature with the main tank, the filter to keep water quality good, etc.
Have you tested your water chemistry? They need the same good water chemistry as the adults and if the filter in their tank is not keeping ammonia and nitrites at zero, that could well be the problem. The fry do not need water from a mature tank but, having water that matches their birthplace is a good idea to reduce stress. I assume that you do frequent partial water changes on the main tank so you need to do the same on the fry tank. Another concern that often comes up with a fry tank is that you end up overfeeding and the water quality declines. Frequent water changes on the fry tank will keep the pollutants under control.
To narrow things down, you might try using the breeder in the main tank and see if you then get good survival. If you do the main difference would be the water in the fry tank not being good enough.

Cheers for the reply.

How oftenm should I do a water change? I think It may be due to over feeding so im going to cut back on that.
