I'm getting my tank today I've read about it but I'm hearing things of different people, I have no fish, it will be new water from tap, what do I need to do?

Get some dechlorinator to put in the water to remove the chlorines. Then you need to get some 9.5% houshold ammonia (Boots sell it for about £2.50 and a syringe for about 70p) You will also need a good test kit.

Basically you add enough ammonia to take the concentration up to 4ppm. You then wait for the concentration to fall to zero ( Test every 24 hours) Then add more ammonia to take it to 4ppm. You repeat this process until the ammonia concentration falls to zero in a 12 hour period. You also at some stage need to start measuring nitrites and nitrates.

Post your results on the forum.

There are a number of links in the fixed at the top of the new to the hobby forum which go into far greater detail, and there are a lot of people with lots more experience who will help you through this.
