I have a problem in my "E-Bay Tank" it appears the unknow Cichlid in my tank is a Melanochromis parallelus or Auratus... from what i have read it doesn't sound too good... highly aggresive (which i have already seen against my male combtail)

Will the fish settle if moved from a 29 US Gal to my new 50 US Gal once up and running if i provide it with plenty of caves etc...

He came off worse against my combtail i think as he has part of his lower front fin missing... but is still going strong and doesn't look ill.

I know my tank is overstocked and incompatible fish are contained within but i am trying to rectify this ASAP and i didn't choose the fish the crazy people i bought from on e-bay did!

Thanks in advance for you advice...

ouch. and i thought the stocking in the tank i jus got from a friend was bad lol.

good to see someone actually doing something about it tho!!

as for the cichlid, im not too sure but i do kno they prefer a different water to the rest of your fish so it mite be best to rehome to someone with other african cichlids??

I have someone who can take him as a temporary measure so that either him or my combtail don't come off too badly... Such a lovely looking fish it's a shame...

With the fish i have in my tank do you think if i split them between my two tanks there will be room for anything else...

trouble is you have some big fish, or atleast ones that will get big.

the plecs are both too big for either of your tanks, i THINK parrots grow to 8 inches, Clown loaches get to about the same and should be kept in groups ( my 5 never leave eachothers side, they even have an afternoon rest 2geva on a big rock lol).

Angel Fish need 30G minimum so your ok there and the same goes for the gourami and paradise fish.

id look to rehome one of the plecs and the probably the clowns then keep the parrots and the others in the 50G

i think that should be ok and would leave room for some fish more suited to the tank and gives you the option of choosing them which IMO is great fun.

you should try speaking to your LFS or one nearby anyway. Some are very understanding and willing to help out in these situations.

i jus took 2 red tail black sharks to my LFS and they gave me a malawi cichlid in return so i didnt lose out.

I'm not exactly sure of what plec is what... one is about 6" and looks like a sailfin more than a common plec and the other is too small to tell at the moment he is about 2" if that and is at least a year old so i'm not sure if he is a common plec even though he looks like one.

I'm thinking of putting the bigger plec into the 50G and see how he goes and leave the smaller one in the 30G if they start getting too big then i will look to rehome them. How quickly do Clown loaches grow? A friend has some that are between 3-4 years old and they are still only 2-3" in size...

I've kept so many fish in the past imho Flush the auratus if you cant seperate him into another tank TODAY
the longer he's there the longer your other original fish will be stressed,
better yet, take him into a lfs and tell them, Free of charge  yea, thats your best bet!!

Personally flushing a fish is a sick thing to do IMO! Why should i waste a creatures life simply because someone has made a mistake? Your other suggestions are more reasonable but why would i kill a healthy creature simply because it doesn't fit into my plans?
