not sure what happened, electricity went off for a short time, not sure filter came on right away, may have been off a day. 45 gal tank, 6 guppies 4 platties, established over a year.
two filters a aquaclear 70, and just added a penguin 200, i have gone thru a lot of aquaclears in other tanks, but have a bio wheel penguin that seems invincible in 50 gal tank. I have changed 1/3 of water for 3 days now, today did almost a 1/2 change. lots some guppies but platties are hanging in there. what more can I do / since I have a bio wheel in other tank I have the charcoal media from that tank that I could move to this one, or i could swith bio wheels for a short time. big tank is pretty full , so don't want to chance an amonia problem in that one by removing something. what to do

Do you have a test kit? If so, please post your numbers. In the meantime, change 90% of the water. If your water is showing ammonia at .50 or higher, you'll need to do 90% water changes until that number is down to under .5, at which point 75% or 50% should suffice. Maybe your media dried and killed your bacteria colony? Either way, you'll have to monitor your tank stats frequently. Don't switch around any of your media. Keep what is in the problem tank where it is. If your other tank is too heavily stocked to afford any loss of media, do not add that over, either.
