This suuuuuuuucks!! We just went to Petsmart today, and of course I had to look at the bettas even though I can't have anymore atm.
And what do I see... 2 BLACK CT male bettas!!!! Well they weren't completely black, they had a tiny bit of white tips on their tails, but that was it.... BLACK! OMG I wanted them so bad!! *sob*
They also had another gorgeous male CT that probably came from the same spawn as the other 2.
Was a very dark almost black blue purple color...........

Damn you Petsmart!!! Of course when I can't have any more you get in the purdy ones! WHHHHHYYYYYYYY :-( :X

does your petsmart mistreat bettas too??

if so then be happy you dont have room!! then you will encourage the treatment!!

my petsmart is trying atleast

they put the girls together but the boys are on a dark shelf in tiny cups that "replicate their natural environment" somehow. :shout:

Aww! Bless! Sorry about that - I werent allowed a fish on tuesday, but there were some AMAZING bettas in! It really sucks doesnt it! :(

Ive grown to love bettas, i think i might get some 4 Gal plastic tanks and get a 25w heaters for them, decorate them and do a 100% water change 2 times a week :)

Does this sound okay for a couple of bettas?

Edit: 1 betta per tank! haha

Our Petsmart used to have them in those little cups on the shelves, but they've gotten rid of those and keep them in these cubby things on the wall above the lower tanks that has filtered water running through them.
Now that's not to say that they're the best at keeping bettas, but they've gotten better and they're A LOT better than the other places around here.

*sigh* I wish I could've gotten at least one of those bettas, but we really don't have anywhere I could put it.. unless I wanted to setup our little 3 gallon again, but don't really want to do that.

CeeJay, that sounds ok, cept for the water changes. I'm just not for putting fish in to unfiltered tanks. You could DIY sponge filters for the tank. I'm not sure how they work, but I'm sure if you asked in the DIY section of the forums they'd be able to tell ya. It sounds like it's really easy and cheap though, so that could always be an option for ya :D

To be honest, i think its cheaper and easier to buy a sponge filter lol.

For me it was, i payed £3 for one i think... You basically plug an air line into it, off a pump. The bubble's will rise up, and create a suction, which will in turn drag the water trought the spone (filtering it) and then up the tube and out where the bubbles pass.

It's a reasonable idea but these fish do requie filters for a stable tank environment, just like any gourami ( who are also anabantids /air breathers just the same ) Sponge filters are not expensive and will easily fit a 4 gal tank.

I understand this is cruel.. but what do you suggest? do you expect them to give each male betta its personal 5 gallon tank?

I don`t see why they couldn`t at the very LEAST keep them in their own small critter keepers(half gallon sized?) until they are sold. It would still be better than those stupid little cups.

Modaz has an LFS and his are in individual 2 gallon tanks. It hasn't killed him ;)

Realistically though most LFS can't do this. But surely, there is no real difference to them, in initial outlay or maintenance costs, to use 1/2 gallon cups rather than 1/8 gallon. A 1/2 gallon critter keeper costs virtually the same as the cups most LFS use. Obviously this doesn't apply to the JERKS who keep them in PLASTIC PARTY DRINKING CUPS. Don't even START me on that mob... I think I will get off this thread before I post enough swear words to get myself banned.

have you seen how sad the bettas look in those little cups? the lfs barely ever change the water!! and they are kept in a dark area in my lfs!! the stress from this and not having proper heat can cause diseases and stuff!!

i even tried to convince my lfs to put 1 male in every tank that just houses plecs, loaches, corycats, ect. that would even give them all an individual tank!!

but nooooooo!!!! "honey most of the year they live in mud puddles" < cant believe they would say that!!

i dont think these are mud puddles

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

oh and Amunet is your sig up to date? if so i see 2 places for bettas to go

The empty 10 gal is currently being used as a quarantine tank for clown loaches that have ich :\
Dunno the 2nd option you're talking about? If it's the other 10gal... nuhuh. The killifish is pretty mean.... well.. not too mean but I know a betta and it would not get along. There are also 2 male platy in the tank and they are mean little boogers as well heh, so not a good place for a betta.
Once the 125gal is done cycling though... the killifish and platy will be moved to it.
Plan on making the 10gal a shrimp tank, but might get a betta for it as well.. hopefully it doesn't snack on the shrimp too much :p lol
The other 10gal is probably gonna be set up as a quarantine tank until we fully stock the 125, then my hubby is making me take it down.. booo rofl.

were did the clowns come from?

i have had bettas in with killis b4 noprob!! and i used to breed mollies guppies platties and swordtails to feed to my african clawed frogs, but for color kept a betta and some danios.

lol sometimes you see some nice ones at petsmart XD the betta in my icon was bought at petsmart, which i was suprised to find anyway, we got him in a shipment of entirely steel blue/grey and some orange lol usually they are around the same colors, usually red/green. lol but if your gonna have to take the ten gal down later, you could just put one in it before its taken down, and use it as an excuse to not take it down? XD I donno, depends on if you really want it XD
