Does anyone know much about these?

I have just purchased 2 yesterday, a male and a female.

They was in a very small tank in the back of a fish shop with no lighting and the water looked awful, i took them home and set them up a new tank and started treating them straight away as they also had white spot, bless em...

The fish have now perked up a bit and i was thinking about maybe breeding them, i know very little about them but read they are easy to breed.

Any info r experience on them like diet etc would be great.

Thanks

Wayne

I have the P. nicholsi, which is of the same family if not the same fish. But they are pretty easy to take care of. Best to keep a pair in a 20 gal long as they do like space to swim. Likes caves and also planted tanks. I feed mine bloodworms, brine shrimp, flakes, and live food. Female will hold the eggs for about 10 days, sometimes its best to move her into a fry tank to release the fry, sometimes she will release in the main tank, but is best to raise the fry in a seperate tank, Feed the fry very small live foods and baby brine shrimp for the first couple of weeks, then you can start adding crushed flakes. Once the fry is big enough to sex, the males will fight and will try to kill each other, best only one male to a tank.

Here is a pic of my male and 2 females, not a good pic though

Thanks very much for your info...

Is it best to maybe get another female then?

There was only these two you see in the shop so would have to ask him if he can get me another female if needed.

Thanks

Wayne

2 females to a male are preferable otherwise he will harras the single female until she loses the eggs, I've had them and the males are lovely, you won't believe how many eggs the female can hold and she will be slightly larger than the male with a big jaw LOL.

Hi Simonas, did you get my message from aquarist about the the lf's who might be getting them in ?

Athena

I payed £10 for the pair, was that a good price?

Thanks
