Hi all,

First things first, I've got a 150l tank and currently i'm using a Nutrafin kit with diy mix. I realise that this is not sufficient for the size of the tank so I'm looking to get a pressurized system. I don't really know of anywhere in the Hull area that I could easily get cylinders refilled, so I was looking at kits with the disposable CO2 cannisters such as the D&D Freshwater set. Has anybody had any experience with these and are there any major differences in long term running costs between these and a refillable cylinder?

Thanks.

why not buy a standard c02 regulator for around £30 and a reconditioned 2 1/2kg fire extinguisher??

I bought a complete pressurised co2 kit from ebay from a German dealer aquamas which is a lot cheaper than the kits here

Think the disposable cylinders are still around 500g, so the price should be the same, poss even cheaper as I pay 13quid for a 500g JBL refill but have see disposable welding cylinders on ebay for around 6quid each. The kits are basically the same, the only difference you should be aware of is that the connector on the reg is different for refill and disposable cylinders, but you can get an adaptor that allows you to go from disposable to refillable cylinders should you want to upgrade in the future. Not sure about going the other way.

There is a refillable JBL cylinder which comes with reg on ebay at the mo, relatively good price at 50quid too, just need a bit of CO2 tubing and diffuser.

I saw some disposable CO2 canisters in Halfords today for just under £9. Not sure what size they were though, probably 500g.

Thanks for the input guys, I'm going to have a look over the weekend to see if I can find anywhere locally to get cylinders re-filled easily otherwise i'll be getting a disposable cannister set.

Include beer making stores, they use CO2 to drive the dispenser and also carbonated beverage distributors. They use CO2 to drive their fountain pop/soda dispensers. Both these businesses are likely to have a CO2 cylinder filing capability.
Cheers;
