Today i was looking at my pregnant swordtail and I noticed just by her gravid spot there was a dark black circle. Do you think these could be one of the frys eyes

What colour/shape do the frys eyes appear when they are still inside the fish? :dunno:

They appear as dark round spots how dark can depend on the coloring of the mommy. On one of mine I was actually able to count eight at one time just before she birthed. It may be harder to see them if she has a darker color then my marigold Swords. They can also have a lighter colored ring around the dark spot.

When my fish are pregnant, I usually see a bunch of the fry's eyes pressing against their mother's belly. :) The eyes look a tiny black dot encircled with a white rim, similar to the adults's eye only smaller. It's easier to see them in the lighter colors of swordtails.

I was looking at my pregnant swordtail again today and i saw just between the stomach and the gravid spot was a tiny circle(literally the size of the tip of a pin) and I think it has a lighter circle around it.But the eye isn't moving around or anything. Could this be an eye of a fry? If it, is roughly How long is it until the swordtail will give birth? CHEERS!!!

I have noticed that the gravid spot is visible for a few weeks before they actually birth. Several eyes become visable and the spot gets darker and more defined. The female also gets even fatter and from behind they can appear a bit on the square side along the belly. By the way did any of you know that gravid is the Swedish word for pregnant?
