Pregnant Swordtail?

Is my swordtail pregnant. There is a dark mark inside the female near where it poops, also the male keeps following her about. Anyone have any pics???

Yes, she's in the club. You'll be able to tell when she's almost ready to 'drop' ; the gravid spot (dark area) will seem to go almost square in shape when seen from the back. If you plan to put her in another tank on her own to have her fry, that's when you should do it. Be prepared for this happening every month.

I've got 2 like it, my males one randy bugger!!! Will she just drop her fry anywhere or will she go anywhere specific??

Could be absolutely anywhere. If you have a spare tank, you could try raising them until they're big enough to trade at your LFS (ask first though). That's what I used to do - I didn't have to pay for any food, plants or dechlorinator for nearly two years.

Geez you were lucky to be able to trade fish. Wish places around here would do that. The best they'll do is take the fish as an adoption.

As for the swordtail. Now would be your chance to move her into another tank if you want. Or you could just let her have the fry in the current tank. As long as you have enough hiding spots you will rarely loose any fry. Good Luck
