Pregnant Sword Tail!..

Fish tend to give birth at night. Perhaps that is so the fry have a better chance of survival. You said you have a problem with the female in the main tank though, but taking the fish out of net breeders and breeding traps is something people do to relieve unnecessary stress.

Oh ok, well ill just take her out during the day and just make sure she doesnt get too territorial then put her back in at night.

heres some pics of her and the tank:

Based on the size of your tank in the picture, you are setting yourself up for a population explosion that tank can't handle. Even if the Swordtail births in the main tank, some of the fry are bound to survive with good cover like that.

She Is Giving birth as we speak! she has been popping out fry for the past few hours, theres about 30 or 40 on the bottom of the breader tank.

:hyper: :good:

How long should I wait before putting her back into the main tank? shes not as fat anymore but still has a gravid spot. She has only eaten 2 so far, but a few fish are swimming up in her part of the Breeding tank. Should I feed the fry or the mother yet?

Lol 2 more questions:

There are a few fry sitting on the bottom of the feader they are tiny and not moving much.. are they resting or
premature (dead)? and is there anything I need to do? or just watch nature run its course.

Andy :)
