Hello, my name is Mallorie and I'm new to the world of breeding fish. I've had a large fish tank for a couple months now and I've finally gotten a couple pregnant fish. My tank consists of only:
-2 Petco bred swordtails, a male and female
-2 sunset fire platys, I believe both female
-1 Betta fish, male

My Betta fish gets along perfectly fine with the others so I'm happy about that, but I was wondering when one of my fire platys will have her fry. I just got her from the store yesterday but I'm not sure of the stages of their pregnancy. Her belly isn't squared off but she is pretty big, I've tried uploading a picture but I can't seem to get it to work. So when she is near her time does the Travis spot get larger or smaller? Remember this is my first time having a pregnant fish, so I'm clueless and need all the help I can get. :L I'll keep trying to upload a picture ASAP but I just need to know the stages of how big they get.

Welcome to our forum Deadmau5.

Without a picture it is hard for us to predict when you might have a fry drop. In a platy it can happen as often as every 4 weeks but that does not mean that a female is required to drop that often. Mollies also drop about 4 weeks after gestation starts but for my own mollies I saw about 6 weeks between drops. We have a thread here that would help you judge your own fish's progress. It can be reached using the link in my signature to My Molly's Progress. It is a thread that I created using one of my own mollies from one drop to the next. The idea was to make each person their own best judge of their individual female's status.
