Is my red platy pregnant? I have a female red platy. It is very fat and breathing heavily. It still swims quite a bit. It is followed around by 2 male platy a panda and another red. Here is some pictures I found that are exactly what it looks like. Please tell me if it is and if so how long till fry come.

P.S.
Its in a 30 gallon right now with
2 other red platy 1 male 1 female
1 pandy platy male
1 sunset fire wag platy female
1 pineapple swordtail male
3 cardinal tetras unsure of genders
1 clown loach unsure of gender
1 bristlenose pleco female
and then her (female)

also when do i need to move into a breeder tank?
what do you need to put in a breeder tank?

you might need to copy and paste links in your browser just fyi if they don't work

I cannot get them to work. Based on your stocking though, can I advise that your m/f ration should be 1:2. You should probably get at least three more ladies, as the males will bully the females and stress them out. More females cause them to divide their attention further.

If you have males and female together, then they are probably preggo. Livebearers love them some nookie :p Also be advised that Swordtails and Platys can mate with each other, so you will more than likely end up with hybrids.

Also, do not put her in a breeder tank unless you have something 10g or more. Putting her in the traps or nets will stress her out, and possibly complicate birth if she is preggo.

Oh and make sure your have PLENTY of hiding place. Platys think their babies are tasty :)

Thanks also if u wanted to look at the one pic it's like goriadfarms.com or something then just look up red platy

Would u suggest a 5 gal breeder then when she appears about ready putting in a breeding net

Unless you have room to accomodate all the babies i wouldnt bother trying to save them. With adequate hiding and such you stand a good chance of survivors. A full platy batch (20-50 fry) will quickly outgrow a 5 gallon tank. if you want to try and save a few you can temporarily place the babies in a breeder net for a week or two, then release them. I did that with my recent saves, and at two weeks they were big enough to not be food. I wouldn't recommend trying to save the whole batch without having a tank larger 10-20 gallon as a fry tank. And keep in mind that the fry, if well taken care of and well fed, will quickly outgrow that tank if you save an entire batch.

I do recommend trying to save any that are unusual colored ;)

I have an extra 20 gallon I was going to actually set up soon enough and I planned on giving my friend some of them I was just gonna use the 5 to put the 1 platy in until she gave birth then the 20 will be an only platy tank

Also I'm gonna get on my 30 right now those 3 female platy u suggested but I also wanted a common pleco would this overstock my tank?

In a 30g I would spring for a Bristlenose. They only get to be about 6 inches long, so you wouldn't have to worry about rehoming him due to large size. A common can get to be well over a foot long...they are known to get up to 24inches. I have an albino Bristlenose and they are just cute as can be, but they also have brown ones out there is your prefer.

The 5g could work as a temporary holding, but the babies stand a chance of being eaten up unless you have plenty of spots to hide.

TBH I have never separated the female that was birthing in my tank. I use the net to scoop any babies out that I plan to keep. But I have a 40g tank with alot of hiding places. I have 7 survivers from my last batch and I didn't do anything to save babies.

I actuall y already have a bristlenose he's about 2 inches long. So you wouldn't get a common. How about another clown loach?

Clown loaches get to be up to 12 inches long and need to be in shoals of 6. Unless you have a 75+ gallon tank, they are not a good idea. And no, a common will get to big for your tank, or will become stunted. I would have told you that earlier, but I didn't catch it on your list. Also, your cardinals should be in a group of 6+. They are schooling fish.

Well I plan on setting up my new 20 gal tomorrow and also buying a 10 gal as well from my neighbor ($10!) so this way I can get any fish really I think I'll move all my platys in there then get 2 more cards and get another clown loach cuz my LFS has a tradein policy when fishes get too large

Okay, but if you have a fish that is going to get to big for the tank, then you may stunt them and shorten their life if they are not moved to a bigger tank. Even if you trade them in to the LFS, the LFS will probably stick them in an unsuitable tank. You really hsouldn't get another loach because for one, it is too big for what you have. Having multiple tanks of various sizes doesnt mean you can get any type of fish. It means you can have different varieties of fish suitable to that tank, and two, the loaches will be unhappy as they are not in preferable sized shoal. I know you like them and all, but you also have to take into account the well being of the fish. I want a green terror, but i cannot have one because it is an unsuitable tankmate to my Jewel Cichlid. I could get one, but the GT will end up dead I am sure.

My platy is getting fatter by the day I say fry will come any day now

And btw the loaches don't NEED a shoal of six they thrive and prefer 6 but usually 2 is suitable for them

But they do NEED a tank of at least 75g considering their size.

But, since you seem to have it all figured out, I'm done here :) Good luck with your babies and stunted clown loaches :) I am sure they will be happy.
